About the Measure Phase
You may have heard the saying,
"You get what you measure. If you measure the wrong thing, you get the wrong results."
This is so true in Six Sigma methodology. In the Measure phase we will learn techniques for collecting the "right" data to discover the fundamentals about the current process or product being investigated to lead to data-driven (fact-based) decision making.
Determining Data Types
To determine the data type to be collected, the SSGB must be able to answer the question, " What do we want to know."
In this section, you will learn how to identify the data types used with Six Sigma tools. We will review examples of each type and then allow you to apply the tools using your project or a course exercise.
Perform a Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
A measurement system analysis (MSA) is performed to evaluate the tools and processes used to collect data. It is necessary to ensure the measurement device is providing accurate information and there is little judgement involved in the outcome. In this lesson, you will be introduced to the tools & methodology for determining whether the variation measured is from the process or the measurement tool.
Assess Capability
There are (2) methods you will learn for determining the process capability. Each method will help you accurately assess the process performance both short-term and long-term capability to estimate the number or percent defects produce over time. Note: A six sigma process occurs when no defects are expected in 99.99966% of all chances to produce them.
